  • What is Kambo?

    Kambo is a powerful non-psychedelic medicine from the secretions of the Phyllomedusa bicolor; Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog. It helps heal and deeply cleanse the energetic, spiritual and physical body, offering immense clarity and is one of nature’s most potent antibiotics and anesthetics. Tribespeople of the Amazon have been using Kambo for thousands of years to promote strength and endurance, clear infections and disease and to cleanse out spiritual diseases known as ‘panema’ - which is caused by negative or dark energies stored in the body and is the root cause of disease. what can i expect during a kambo treatment?

We begin the ceremony with your intentions. The application of medicine begins by creating small, superficial burns called “gates” on the surface of your skin. Typically, 3 are made for a first session with Kambo. Traditionally, women have points placed on the lower leg and men on the shoulder. Specialized treatments can utilize point placements on the body that correlate with specific chakras or meridians to target specific spiritual and emotional healing.

After drinking 1.5L of water, the kambo medicine is placed onto the open gates. The effects come quickly and may include sensations of feeling warm, sweating, increased heart-beat and feeling of pressure or pounding in the head. It is common for the face to swell up which subsides once the medicine is taken off. Nausea comes and several waves of purging begin within a few minutes to 20 minutes. It is important to breathe into the discomfort and surrender to the medicine. Purging may also release through crying, laughing, burping, and diarrhea as the body will release in whatever way it needs to express.

Once the purging stops, the medicine is taken off of the gates and the effects subside quickly. The total effects of the medicine last from 15-45 minutes. There is now time to lay down to integrate and rest. Sometimes profound insights come forward with mental clarity. Dragon’s blood, an antiseptic tree sap is placed on the small gates to seal and heal, creating a superficial scab.

When I lived on a tiny cabin on a pond, the nightly symphony of frogs would sing into the night. I remembered my little treefrog friend I played with as a young child and the frogs I would catch and release at Frog Lake. Frog medicine was calling and after experiencing my first Kambo session, I knew I wanted to deepen my relationship with this immensely profound and powerful spirit medicine.

In the summer of 2021, I was left feeling lethargic, depressed and listless for a month after experiencing covid. It felt like a thick, dense, black haze was shrouding my entire being and the life was being sucked out of me. One single kambo treatment reset my being and lifted the dark fog away. The Amazonians call this dark energy “Panema”, pronounced “Paneema.”

Frog medicine is connected to water energy, the element I am most connected to. I was born between the fishes and the water bearer and known as a water baby; a mermaid; a lifeguard. Frog energy is deeply cleansing to our souls. It is also connected to the womb, the space that has been the focal point of my personal journey. Deep in the watery, dark depths of the womb is where all of life is created and from this empty void, creations are birthed. Kambo cleanses our energetic field and purifies our body so that we can be rebirthed again. By clearing out what no longer serves us, this alchemical process creates a new spaciousness within us so that we may fill those new spaces with what we truly desire. Life-death-rebirth has been my continuous path of devotion for my own transformation and inner knowing. In my favorite medicine deck, it is described that “an ability of frog medicine people is to give support and energy where it is needed. A frog medicine person can clean negativity from any environment. Frog speaks of new life, replenishment and harmony, and like frog, we are asked to know when it is time to refresh, purify and refill the coffers of our soul” (Sams, Carson). I trust that I am deepening into these abilities as part of my soul’s journey.

I am passionate about assisting others in their healing journey through Kambo, holding safe and sacred space for transformation. My intention is to safeguard this medicine for its use to be carried out with utmost respect and reverence, assisting others in cleansing the body and spirit in being offered clarity, grounding and profound healing so that they can rise higher into their divinity.
